Downtown Houston is the seventh largest business district in the United States, and is comprised of The Historic District, Main Street Square, Skyline District, sports and convention centers, and the Theatre District. The Historic District includes the Harris County courts complex and The University of Houston – Downtown. Main Street Square includes a pavilion, and Main Street Square Station, encircled by fountains. The Skyline District includes many skyscrapers, and is the basis of employment in the area; on special occasions, the skyscrapers serve as giant projection screens and launchpads for fireworks. Sports and convention centers in Downtown Houston include Minute Made Park, home to the MLB Astros, and the Toyota Center, home of the NBA Rockets. The Theatre District is a seven-block area that includes performing arts venues, Bayou Place, the Houston Public Library, and the Houston Aquarium restaurant.
Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (METRO) operates Houston’s public transportation. Downtown Houston is served by five light rail stations on METRORail’s Red Line. METRO also operates many bus lines through Downtown.
